RECOGNIZE AND REPORT PHISHING

Phishing attacks are so common in today's digital society that no one is immune to them. Phishing is a major threat to businesses like ours, and it only takes one of us to click on a phishing email for our entire organization to suffer.

WHAT IS PHISHING?

A phish is a deceptive email or text message that appears legitimate but is designed to trick you into disclosing personal information.

WHAT DO THEY WANT?

SENSITIVE
COMPANY INFORMATION
YOUR
PASSWORDS

HERE`S HOW PHISHING WORKS

In most case, you will receive an email that appears to come from a reputable company with which you do business, such as a vendor, supplier partner or your financial institution.

The email will warn you of a serious problem that requires your immediate attention. It may use phrases like "Immediate attention required" or "Please contact us immediately about your account". The email will then encourage you to click on a link to go to the institution's website.

In a phishing scam, you could be redirected to a fake website that appears to be the real thing.

In either case, you may be asked to update your account information or provide verification information, such as your account number, password, or the information you use to verify your identity.

DEFEND YOURSELF AGAINST PHISHING:

  • Emails deserve a hard look: Stop – Think – Report. Report phishing emails using the Phish notify icon in Outlook or email us at phishing@breakthrubev.com.
  • Never respond to or trust an email requesting personal or sensitive company information.
  • Always verify an email’s authenticity before you click any links or open attachments.
  • Don’t click or open email attachments, links, or login pages from an unknown sender.
  • Never enter your ID and/or password after clicking a link in an email. If an email link takes you to a site that requires you to sign in, the best practice is to navigate to the site manually by typing in the address.
  • If something is not quite right or you suspect you’ve received a phish - even if you’re not quite sure - report it to the Information Security team at phishing@breakthrubev.com.

It’s not enough just to ignore or delete a suspicious email. Report it today!

NOT ALL EMAILS ARE REAL.
LEARN TO SPOT THE DIFFERENCE.

LEARN TO SPOT PHISHING EMAILS

Here are some ways to recognize a phishing email:

  • Beware of urgent subject lines: Scammers frequently use a sense of urgency or fear in their subject lines.
  • Look for misspelling and poor grammar.
  • Examine the context: What is the purpose of the email? Is it a personalized greeting or a generic greetings?
  • Examine the sender information: A message from Microsoft will come from @microsoft.com it won’t come from a Gmail account.
  • Think Before you Click: Don't click on links or download attachments from unknown senders. While a website address might look perfectly valid, hover your cursor above the link and a different URL address may display altogether.
  • Trust Your Instincts: If you receive an unexpected email from a seemingly trustworthy source that seems out of character, don't respond to the email – Report It!
